Like your observation that Darnold “gets the ball on top of his target abruptly.” I’m sure the issues with his mechanics are there, but ironically to me it looks like he has a quick release. I kept hearing about his good processing skills, but what stood out to me in the few throws I saw was outstanding physical ability. It might not be fair, but that counts for a lot. I read about how he just stepped out onto a beach never having played volleyball before in his life and dominated. The guy is just a natural.
